Hamburg, here we come! 🤸🏽♀️Reunited and it feels so good. Being playful 👀 and exploring Hamburg‘s green corridor leading to the east – home of our hosts, @halllohalllohalllo and @kraftwerk_bille. Off to a great start to the final meeting. Photos by the one and only @panosgeorgiou ❤️
Last week, #TeamChisinau inaugurated #CasaMicle, a pavillion and meeting space where people can learn more about their vision to turn Veronica Micle Street into a pedestrian zone. 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏽♂️🚶🏻♂️🚶🏾♀️
During the Sidewalk Forum, Architects, experts in urbanism and civic activists participated expressing their own ideas and views regarding pedestrian streets and public spaces. The adults, alongside with children, valued this amazing opportunity to have, at least for a day, the street as a pedestrian space. They played on it, engaged in long walks and conversations and drew with colored chalk on asphalt. .

Yesterday, we explored the port city of Rijeka and learned from @rijeka2020 and @deltalab_rijeka about an area called “Sweet and Salt” where the river meets the sea, an industrial area with many abandoned spaces that they are now reclaiming for the local community. One of their plans is to restore access for residents to the seaside and riverside for swimming, leisure and more — through simple and cheap interventions, using mostly what is already there. Here are some impressions of the day by the best ever @panosgeorgiou ⛵️🌊

Oh what a ride! 🚞🚞🚞
Rolling through beautiful forests, villages, and mountains all the way to the sea from Zagreb to Rijeka would have already been enough. But we did it Actors style: had a wagon just for us and took the time to reconnect, reflect and find out what all the teams have been up to in the past few months. All with a good dose of humor. What a great bunch of people! 🤩🙌

The creative bureaucracy: Rethinking the role of city governments
“We’re in the midst of redesigning the world and all its systems for 21st century conditions,” Charles Landry argues. This will demand new ways of thinking and problem solving.
How to turn #foodwaste into (social) energy in a super dense urban environment? Exploring new ways of consuming and producing in London’s East during a last supper with @rurban_poplar_london, @poplar.harca, @publicworks_uk and #quantumwaste at their anaerobic digester in the midst of #Poplar.
Thanks to #TeamLondon for hosting our Actors and to @publicworks_uk for the awesome pictures!

It emerged out of nothing last May, and returned to nothing in September. Now, Berlin’s @floatinguniversity is trying to find ways to keep this inner-city offshore laboratory for collective, experimental learning alive. Actor of Urban Change Dorothee Halbrock from @halllohalllohalllo and #TeamHamburg was dean of Floating University’s open programs. She shared with us her impressions of the summer as well as the project’s outlook for the future. Read her story on our website – link in bio! ⠀

Floating University Berlin “Making a place emerge out of a dump”
From May to September, students and practitioners built an inner city offshore laboratory for collective, experimental learning on an old concrete rainwater basin in Berlin. Now, they are trying to create a long-term vision around the temporary structures.

“If you want to do a favor to your local politician: sue them!” #tbt to the delightfully provocative Ania Rok, who helped our Actors expand their advocacy toolbox to include some unusual ways to go around roadblocks in their projects back in Lecce. …

Sebastian and Naomi were just in #Hamburg on a (not so) secret mission. Great things are in the works and we’re excited to explore with @halllohalllohalllo and @kreativgesellschaft and Kraftwerk Bille to see what can happen in this space!⠀

Lecce: Bridging the urban-rural divide What can cities learn from rural regions?
In September, we took Actors of Urban Change to Lecce, in Southern Italy, for our latest network meeting — where participants got to exchange and learn more about the topic of advocacy while also working on their projects. It was also a chance to visit one of the current round’s projects and immerse ourselves into their context.
We’re delighted that #TeamTimisoara’s Healing Grid project won the BETA 2018 prize in the Initiatives, Experiments and Vision section! 👏 🙌 💪 The team enrolled in the regional Architecture Biennale competition in order to promote Timisoara’s opportunity to turn the drainage channels into ecological corridors that bring nature to the city. The members of the international Jury have praised the concept for its simplicity and potential of impact on multiple aspects: from increased resilience to flooding risks and improving urban life quality to providing a nature-based solution for linking the city with its peripheries and the larger region.⠀
Congrats to our Actors and their local team on the well-deserved win!⠀
